Typical Problem: "I've got a billing application that already has all the patient demographics that my administrative staff entered when the patient checked in. I don't want to retype it into ReDoc, and it would be really nice to avoid having to hand enter billing codes back in when documentation is complete."
Solution: Interface ReDoc with your registration/billing system.
ReDoc is designed to make the clinical documentation process as quick, easy, and accurate as possible, and a key part of our efforts are directed towards sharing information electronically with other applications to prevent duplicate data entry.
Although ReDoc is capable of facilitating a variety of different interface plans, by far the most common is the exchange of patient demographics and billing information with a billing system. In general, it works like this;
Demographics informationThe exchange of demographics information begins when a staff member (usually at the front desk) adds a new patient or updates an existing patient in the registration part of the billing system. Key pieces of information about that patient, such as the patient's name, address, telephone number, unique patient ID (usually a combination of letters and numbers), and, if used, an account or encounter number that is specific to that package of care is sent from the billing system to ReDoc.
ReDoc accepts this electronic data and either creates a new patient or, if the patient is already in ReDoc, updates the existing patient. This exchange means that this patient demographics information does not have to be retyped into ReDoc. Not only does this save time, but it also insures that the exact same information exists in both the billing system and ReDoc.
Billing informationThe exchange of billing information begins when the therapist completes a treatment note in ReDoc. ReDoc then takes key pieces about that event that the billing system needs, such as the treating therapist, CPT codes, units, diagnosis codes, and date of treatment, and sends them electronically to the billing system.
The billing system then has the necessary information to post the appropriate charges. This exchange means that the billing information does not have to be re-entered, and the billing system has billing information that exactly reflects what has been documented in ReDoc, which facilitates compliance.
ReDoc has successfully accomplished these demographics and billing interfaces with systems from a number of different vendors, including;
Technical Notes ReDoc's interfaces are generally managed through the ReDoc Interface Engine (RIE), which is capable of either Health Level 7 or custom interfaces.
